Showdown, Week 30: Sergio Garcia vs. Jeff Overton

So in an attempt to inject a bit more life and interest into tournaments, and because we're both inveterate gamblers who are one bad card from being out on the streets, Jay Busbee and I are playing a golf version of a football suicide pool: We each pick one golfer per tournament and see how they do against each other, straight up. Victory over the other guy gets one point, victory in the tournament gets three points. (Double for the majors.) And when we burn a golfer, he's done for the year. This week, it's the Greenbrier.

Busbee: He's burned me before, so many times. He's taken my affections and buried them fried-egg style in the bunker of my heart. (Wait, this metaphor is getting weird.) Anyway, the reveal: I'm taking Sergio Garcia, who might, just might, be getting his act back in gear after his devastating slide from prominence over the last couple years. He's got top 10s at both the US and British Opens; who's to say another one isn't right around the corner?

Bacon: You know the worst part about Busbee's pick of Sergio? I WANTED TO PICK HIM AS WELL! That's fine though, I'll just go with a guy that's never won on tour, but sure looks like he's ready. Jeff Overton is my guy, mainly because he finished in second place here a year ago, and is coming off two top-10s in his last five events. (See, golf writers, how I got through that entire paragraph with muttering the word "boom"?)

Last Week: Busbee's pick of Lucas Glover looked solid early, and Bacon's pick of Charl Schwartzel looked out of it on Thursday, but they flipped over the weekend, with the Masters winner finishing tied for ninth while Glover finished t-40, giving Bacon the point.
