Ryder Cup Match 3: Dufner/Z. Johnson defeat Westwood/Molinari

This was the least theatrical of the morning matchups, and it went off in fairly routine fashion as the team of Americans Zach Johnson and Jason Dufner took care of business against Europe's Lee Westwood and Francesco Molinari 3 and 2.

Certainly, it appeared this one was headed Europe's way early; for the first seven holes, the Europeans and the Americans traded wins on five of them. But from then on in, it was all USA as Dufner and Johnson won four holes to the Europeans' zero, closing out Europe on the 16th hole.

The best shot of the match, and perhaps of the Cup so far, came on the 12th, when Johnson had a short chip beneath a tree that he put to within inches of the hole. One of the more notable moments occurred moments later on the 13th tee, when a fan's cell phone went off just as Westwood was about to tee off.

"Nice ringtone," Westwood said. Most other players would have had the fan dragged off the course.

From there, it was a fairly routine match, with Dufner changing his shirt on No. 14 being the only moment of "interest." Either way, both teams get off the course a bit early, with the U.S. taking another key point.

Current score: USA 2, Europe 1.
