No. 1 in the world posts nasty 78 to open Masters

Becoming No. 1 in the world at a young age brings a lot of eyes your way, for both the good things you do and the bad. On Thursday at Augusta National, Martin Kaymer made the highlights for the bad.
The last winner of a major championship has missed the cut in his first three attempts at Augusta National, and is on his way to a fourth after his 6-over 78 on Thursday that showed that while Kaymer obviously has game, he isn't totally ready to be dominant.

His round included a double-bogey and six bogeys, with two of those coming on his final two holes, moving a bad round to one of the worst of the day.
What is it about Augusta that Kaymer can't figure out? Who knows, but it is strange. In his last three majors before the Masters, he had finished in the top 10 in two of them and then won the other one, the 2010 PGA Championship. It seems that he has the game to compete at all different types of venues, as he showed at the Accenture Match Play earlier this year, but when Kaymer gets on the grounds of Augusta, his game goes kaput.
For all the good play on Thursday, the biggest shocker will be Kaymer and his 78, and I'm assuming he will be spending his Friday round just trying to muster any good memories he can out of this place before he slams his trunk.
