Report: Maryland WR Stefon Diggs has lacerated kidney
Maryland wide receiver Stefon Diggs may not return to the field this season.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Diggs suffered a lacerated kidney against Penn State on Nov. 1. The injury will likely keep Diggs “out of game action through at least the end of the regular season.”
Diggs went down after a hard hit when trying to make a diving catch in the fourth quarter. Though he later returned to the game, the Sun’s Matt Zenitz said Diggs “was in noticeable pain while walking to the postgame media area after the game.”
Diggs was already suspended for Saturday night’s home game against Michigan State due to an incident before the Penn State game in which Diggs and several other Terps initiated a confrontation with PSU players. Diggs made contact with an official during the scuffle and Maryland head coach Randy Edsall was reprimanded for failing “to control his team.”
Diggs, a junior, leads the Terps with 52 catches, 654 yards and five touchdowns. Deon Long, the team’s next leading receiver, has 35 catches for 389 yards and one score.
Beginning with the Michigan State game, Maryland (6-3) has three regular season games remaining. Following Saturday night’s game, Maryland will face Michigan on the road and Rutgers at home.
