Nationals trying to trade John Lannan

US PresswireThe Washington Nationals made themselves a little stronger Thursday by adding Edwin Jackson to their rotation for one season for around $10 million. The word from Fox Sports is that the team is also "aggressively" trying to unload John Lannan from its rotation as well.

The 27-year-old lefty, who lost his arbitration case with the team and will be paid $5 million this season rather than the $5.7 million that he wanted, went 10-13 with a  3.70 ERA last year (when he was paid $2.75 million).

Fox reports that Jackson had a few three-year offers, but decided to go with one so that he can hopefully stuff his stats this season and re-enter the free-agent market at the end of the 2012 season.

So, Jackson got $10M, and Garza got less? Jackson is a QUESTION mark and always has been. He is a .500 pitcher, AVERAGE and got that kind of money, the nats just keep throwing a ton of money at the wrong people. DUMB

That's great news for whoever gets him. Give him a few extra runs & you have a 15 game winner with ease.

Could be the lefty starter for the # 5th spot the Tigers are looking for?

Totally agree, if the Tigers can generate a good offense consistently, he could easily go 14-7 (my opinion only) He was 10-13 last year, and the Nationals are not a great offensive team.

I'm a Giants fan and we would trade you Zito and his contract for Lannan and what he wants. The National's seem to be printing money for all these contracts so why not? Zito is a class guy that would probably pitch better on the East Coast.

ha! funny Nats are looking to move Lannan due to the glut of decent SP's they have

If they can add a Center Fielder with a bat (Nats have plenty without a bat), pull the trigger.

The Nats have 7 quality starters.... How many do they need? Strasburg, Gonzalez, Lannan, Jackson, Wang, Zimmerman, Gorzelanny, Maya. They need some more offense. Perhaps a CF?

Maya is a bust as a starter. He's decent set-up man but not a starter.

Get Rajai Davis. Nats need a CF that has speed and Toronto needs pitching

Boston lost out on the bidding war on Edwin Jackson and could use a starter. Last season, the Red Sox offered Lars Anderson for the A's Rich Hardin. They balked when they had doubts about Hardin's health. How about Lars Anderson for Lannan?

      How about why?
    • missy b 3 months ago
why not? anderson will never play for
the Sox and at least this guy pitched pretty well last year unlike many of the other trash heap signings so far

Thanks, Missy B. I was hoping Oakland A's could have picked up Anderson in trade for one of our excess pitchers. We need a first baseman with pop bad.

Trade him to BALT for Adam Jones. I know they want to ditch him before he gets to $$. And BALT always needs pitching help....always.

They signed Jackson for a 1 yr deal. Hopefully they lock him up. Lannan wasn't bad last year but thats too much $$ I believe for him. I would play Bernadina in CF. He deserves to start. Good bat, Defense, and can steal the bags
