Zay Jones arrested after incident with mother of Jaguars receiver's child. Here's what we know

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones has been released from jail after his arrest Monday, Nov. 13, on a domestic battery charge.

Jones, 28, was booked into the Jacksonville jail on Monday evening and appeared in court Tuesday.

According to the arrest report provided to The Florida Times-Union by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a woman was visiting Jones on Monday afternoon when the two got into an argument. She indicated to police that Jones was upset she was taking their child back to Orlando.

Jones has been a member of the Jaguars since 2022 when he set career highs in catches and receiving yards. He has not played this season since the Jags' London game against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 8 because of a lingering knee injury.

Who is Zay Jones?

Zay Jones, whose full name is Josiah Avery Jones, is a wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was drafted in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills out of East Carolina University. Jones holds the NCAA Division I record for career receptions (399) and single-season receptions (158 in 2016).

Jones spent two full seasons with Josh Allen and the Bills before being traded to the Las Vegas (then Oakland) Raiders in 2019. After two more seasons, he signed with the Jaguars in 2022. He had his most successful season in his first year with Trevor Lawrence and the Jags, bringing in 82 catches for 823 yards and five touchdowns.

Over his seven-year career, Jones has 261 receptions for 2,785 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has eight carries for 24 yards.

On Monday evening, Nov. 13, Jones was arrested without incident by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery causing bodily harm.

According to the arrest report, a woman came to Jones' condo on San Pablo Road. She said she and Jones got into an argument because she was taking their child back to Orlando, where she lives.

The Sheriff's Office report indicates the officer saw small scratches on the woman's neck that were consistent with marks from a fingernail.

Jones was booked just after 6 p.m. Monday, and his bail was set at $2,503. He was released Tuesday. Jones has hired prominent Jacksonville attorney Hank Coxe to represent him.

The Jaguars released a statement after Jones' arrest. "We are aware of the situation and are in the midst of gathering information. We will have no further comment at this time," the statement read.

In March 2018, Jones was arrested after a bizarre incident in which he was naked in a fight at a Los Angeles apartment complex with his brother, Cayleb Jones, who was then a receiver for the Minnesota Vikings.
