Yes, OU football recruit Andy Bass shined vs. Millwood. But meet this Heritage Hall duo.

No matter where the ball was placed, Millwood had no answer for Heritage Hall's dynamic offense on Thursday night.

The defending Class 3A football champion secured a 47-24 Week 1 victory against Millwood as one takeaway stood out above all others — teams will struggle trying to slow down this dynamic Chargers offense.

Senior quarterback and OU commit Andy Bass was unstoppable from kickoff. Bass completed 22 of his 30 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns while also adding to his passing totals by rushing 14 times for 90 yards and three touchdowns.

While Bass was dominant — nearly gaining 450 total yards from scrimmage — the Heritage Hall standout elected to shift focus away from himself postgame in order to shed light on his wide receiver duo of Jordyn Harris and Rashaud Smith.

"Jordyn and Rashaud are beasts, man," Bass said. "It makes my job a whole lot easier whenever I have guys that have great hands like those two. I know that I can rely on them to make plays every single week. They're also my best friends so I really love going out and competing with them."

Both Harris and Smith were on the receiving end of touchdowns on Thursday night. Harris kicked off his 111-yard night with an 89-yard touchdown pass from Bass on third-and-8 at the Chargers own 11-yard line. On the ensuing Heritage Hall possession, Smith caught a 27-yard pass in the end zone to give Heritage Hall a 20-point lead in the first minute of the second quarter.

Harris and Smith, both two-sport athletes at Heritage Hall for track and basketball, also play defensive back. Smith intercepted a pass from Millwood's CJ Turnbull in the first quarter while Harris also nearly intercepted a pass on the next defensive possession.

Harris deflected several passes in key moments throughout the game to keep the Falcons out of hope for a second half comeback.

“I love being able to play both receiver and defensive back,” Harris said. “That's one thing I like about playing 3A and small school football. We get to play both sides and because of that, I can affect the game in a lot of ways and show that I’m not just one dimensional.”

“Our coaches make it really important for us to be able to play both sides,” Smith said. “I take pride in being able to dominate the defensive side of the ball as well. I'm getting looks as a receiver but people don't know I can play defense at a high level too."

Harris has begun building up offers from the likes of Air Force, Army, Navy and New Mexico State. As a junior, he had 328 receiving yards, 50 tackles and six interceptions. He also used his track skills to average 22.8 yards per kick return.

Smith also is receiving interest from schools for both football and basketball. In his junior year, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound recruit recorded 450 receiving yards, 40 tackles and an interception. He also was been named to a list of All-Tournament teams during the Chargers 2022-23 basketball season.

The duo has been playing together since being at Independence Charter Middle School, where Smith played quarterback and Harris played running back.

"We've always been tight man, that's my brother," Harris said. "To see how far we've come alongside each other, winning a state championship, he means a lot to me."

"To play at the highest level with Jordyn and win a state title with him was a dream come true," Smith said. "Just to have that connection on the field with one of my best friends that pushes me every single day — you can't ask for anything better."

Heritage Hall will face off against Clinton next Friday in a rematch of last year's Week 2 28-7 loss to the Red Tornadoes. The Chargers only loss a year ago came at the hands of Clinton after suspensions and injuries kept out key players. However, Chargers head coach Brett Bogert is optimistic of their chances against Clinton thanks to the play of his wideout and defensive back duo to start the season.

“Having dynamic guys like Jordyn and Rashaud that are able to leave an imprint wherever we line them up is really a blessing,” Bogert said. “They’ve been key in why our offense has seen the success we envision it to.

“It’s been great to have a front-row seat and see the improvement in them over the years and the sky is really the limit for those two.”
