Yellowjackets report: Raisch's late heroics lift Yellowjackets over Cougars

Apr. 18—Kaitlyn Raisch knocked in her own rebound at 75:46 to lift Wisconsin-Superior to a 2-1 victory over Minnesota-Morris Saturday in a UMAC women's soccer match before 95 at Big Cat Stadium in Morris, Minnesota.

After Annah Schussman opened the scoring on an assist by Niya Wilson 11:34 into the contest, Sam Tate knotted it up at 70:08 with the first goal scored against the Yellowjackets this season.

The tie was short-lived as Raish struck only five minutes later and goalie Morgan Philliber had two saves for UWS (5-0 overall, 5-0 UMAC), which has outscored opponents 15-1 this season.

Morris goalie Megan Tschida played the second half and had five saves to lead the Cougars (3-2, 3-1).

'Jackets roll past Morris

Miguel Ocampo and Mason Tynsky each had a goal and an assist as five players scored goals as Wisconsin-Superior rolled to a 5-0 win in UMAC men's soccer at Minnesota-Morris.

Ulrik Lager had three saves to earn the shutout for the Yellowjackets (6-0 overall, 5-0 UMAC) while Jake Peterson had eight saves for the Cougars (1-2-1, 1-2-1).

UWS splits with Cougars

Wisconsin-Superior took the first game against Minnesota-Morris 8-2 but had to settle for the split as the Yellowjackets fell 4-2 in the rematch in UMAC softball at Cougar Softball Park in Morris, Minnesota.

Freshman Tayler Kraemer (7-4) earned the pitching win in the opener, scattering eight hits over seven innings while striking out six and allowing just one earned run.

Kraemer helped her own cause with three hits and two runs at the plate while big sister Kaela Kraemer added two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Olivia Bancroft-Hart, Tiffany Kirk and Davriana Horvath of Esko all added two hits apiece as the Yellowjackets pounded out 13 hits.

Mollie Dummer tossed a five-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead Minnesota-Morris in the rematch, offsetting solid performances by UWS pitchers Malania Madill of Canyon and Amanda Kishish.

Offensively, Lydia Mann had two hits and two runs, Eleanore Steinhouse two hits, a run and RBI, Tori Nichols-Kraft a hit and two RBIs and Olivia Diver of Cloquet chipped in an RBI-triple to lead the Cougars (8-14 overall, 4-4 UMAC).

Horvath and Jessica Jacobson had RBI singles to lead UWS (11-7, 4-2).

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Vikings sweep Yellowjackets

Dallas McBroom and Daniel Salinas earned pitching wins to lead Bethany Lutheran to a 4-0 and 13-2 sweep of Wisconsin-Superior in a UMAC baseball doubleheader in Mankato, Minnesota.

McBrook went 7 2/3 stellar innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 11. Logan Nissen got the final four outs, including three on strikeouts, to complete the shutout while Liam Peterson, Reed Brown and Jake LaBerge's solo home runs were more than enough offense.

Salinas scattered six hits over six innings and struck out three in the seven-inning rematch. Bethany Lutheran's Ross Beumer had quite the stat line, going 2-for-2 with a home run, triple, two runs, three walks and six RBIs to lead the Vikings (5-10 overall, 3-1 UMAC), while Ryan Castaneda had two hits and an RBI to lead the Yellowjackets (9-13, 2-4).
