SUPERIOR — A tough shooting night spelled doom for Wisconsin-Superior in a 67-58 loss to Crown College in its conference opener, Friday, at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.

The Yellowjackets shot 40% (24-of-60) from the field and an abysmal 7.1% from 3-point range on 1-of-14 shooting.

J'Vaun Walker was one of the lone bright spots offensively for UWS after recording a team-high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and three steals. Josef Fahrenholtz matched Walker's rebound total while pouring in 10 points as the only other Yellowjacket player to reach double figures.

Shooting woes and all, the Yellowjackets battled back to tie the Polars at 56 with six minutes left in the second half after trailing 39-31 at halftime. UWS was held without a basket in the nearly five minutes that followed as Crown College outscored the home team 11-1 down the stretch.

The Yellowjackets (6-2) will look to regroup when the team hosts Minnesota Morris on Saturday in a 4:45 p.m. start.

Wisconsin-Superior women's hockey spent too much time in the penalty box to make a challenge in a nonconference road game against St. Olaf on Friday, Dec. 8, losing 5-0 in Northfield, Minnesota.

The Oles had nine power plays and scored on three of them, generating 14 shots on goal. UWS was 0-for-5 with the numerical advantage.

Molly Terebayza scored twice for St. Olaf, while MaKenna Beaver recorded three assists. Oles goaltender Hannah Fritz blanked the Yellowjackets on 19 shots.

In the UWS net, Rose Beeman stopped 22 shots over the first two periods before giving way to Molly Black, who stopped seven shots in the third.

UWS (4-4-1) and St. Olaf meet again on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 9, at Wessman Arena in Superior.
