Yankees gear up for Opening Day in the Bronx, despite tragic loss
BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — As excitement builds in the Bronx for Friday’s Yankees homer opener, the team is grieving a tragic loss.
Catherine Tusiani, 50, was killed after a tree fell on her car in Armonk. Tusiani was later identified as the wife of a Yankees executive.
“Cathy was beloved by our front office staffers, who were privileged to experience and bear witness to her kindness, intelligence, sense of humor and great love for her husband, Michael, over the two-plus decades of dedicated service he has provided to the Yankee organization and the Steinbrenner family,” the Yankees said in a statement.

Despite the heartening news, the Yankees are on a winning streak that fans hope to continue on Friday with their match against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The team won their first five games of the season and are off to a 6-1 start. The Yankees opened the season by sweeping the Astros in Houston. Then they won two of three games against the Arizona Diamondbacks – the defending national league champions.
The Yankees are also gearing up for the rare total solar eclipse on Monday, by pushing back their game against the Miami Marlins.
The game was originally scheduled for 2:05 p.m. – it will now happen at 6:05 p.m. The first 15,000 guests in attendance will receive a Yankees Solar Eclipse T-Shirt, the team shared on social media.
