Yankees announce lineup for Tuesday's game vs. Mariners as Harrison Bader returns

The Yankees look to get back to their winning ways as they start a six-game homestand with a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.

The Yankees' offensive woes continued without captain Aaron Judge and playmaker Harrison Bader. In Judge's absence over the past 12 games, the Yankees (39-33, 3rd in AL East) are averaging just 3.25 runs. During this stretch, they're 4-8 without the 2022 AL MVP and have not won a series in over two weeks.

Fortunately, the Yankees will get a boost as manager Aaron Boone announced earlier Tuesday afternoon that Harrison Bader will return to the lineup, while batting sixth and playing center field on Tuesday night.

Before his hamstring injury in Seattle last month, Bader was starting to feel it at the plate. A 2021 Gold Glove winner, the 29-year-old recorded three home runs, four stolen bases and two multi-hit games in his past 10 contests.

Gerrit Cole will make his ninth start at home this season. After a rough end of May, Cole has found his form in June. In three starts, he's 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA and a 19:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Last time out, he allowed just one run on four hits with eight strikeouts in a no-decision against the Mets on June 14.

After his worst outing of the 2023 season on June 7, Mariners starter George Kirby bounced back in a big way in his most recent start. The 25-year-old struck out a career-high 10 batters in a 9-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on June 13. Kirby was nearly unhittable when these two teams met in late May. He struck out seven, surrendered only three hits and didn't allow a run in eight innings on May 31.
