WT Freeze Tournament: Randall falls late in championship match

The girls soccer version of the WT Freeze Tournament concluded Saturday afternoon with the Gold Bracket championship game between Randall and Lubbock Coronado. The Lady Raiders came up just short, settling for the runner-up trophy with a 2-1 loss.

Randall fell behind 1-0 in the first half but appeared to secure a ticket to PKs when Ryann Davis scored on a header in the 69th minute on an assist from Ryan McClain. Just four minutes later, Coronado responded to go back up and close out the win.

Still, it was a solid effort against a quality 5A program that's historically gotten the better end of their matchups. Head coach Whitney Bernard was pleased with the effort.

"I think we played very, very well today," she said. "I'm very proud of our girls. Most of the time we had about five freshmen on the field, and they really stepped up and adapted. I can't say enough about our goalkeeper, and we've got some great leadership. They kept their heads in it, and while it's not exactly the result that we wanted, against Coronado I'll take that."
