WR Prospect NFL Comps: Rome Odunze

Yahoo Sports fantasy analyst Matt Harmon breaks down which NFL players Washington WR Rome Odunze most compares to leading into the 2024 NFL Draft.

MATT HARMON: We're talking wide receiver prospect comparisons, focusing on Rome Odunze out of Washington. My aggressive comp for him-- and this is aggressive. It is Davante Adams. Now, I hate to compare prospects to some of the best players at the position, but I'm doing it anyways because Rome Odunze to me, just like Davante Adams, no holes in his game.

He's an excellent route runner who gets off the line of scrimmage against press coverage, is a 50/50 ball dominator. Those are more like 80/20 situations, if not 90/10 situations with Rome Odunze, just like Davante Adams. And he also has the ability to make the first defender miss after the catch. At his peak, I think Rome Odunze, just like Davante Adams, is a guy you line up outside, and you throw 30% of your passes to him, and you never think twice about it.

Now, my cautious comp for Rome Odunze is Allen Robinson. We're still squarely in the big X receiver archetype. But Robinson, even in his peak years with the Jaguars and the Bears, kind of topped out as a very good, not elite number-one receiver. Good route runner, solid off the line of scrimmage, a trusted target in contested situations, but not really the same type of YAC threat as a Davante Adams. And again, just sort of topped out as that very good number-one receiver.

But hey, for Rome Odunze, if that's how we're talking about him as a cautious comparison, a really solid number-one X receiver that you can funnel your offense through, that's pretty darn good. And to me, that's what makes Rome Odunze such a good prospect. Really high floor, safe player, and a clear tier-one wide receiver in this year's draft.
