Wizards’ Wes Unseld Jr. hints Johnny Davis could be sent to G League

Washington Wizards head coach Wes Unseld Jr. on Tuesday said that rookie Johnny Davis could eventually play with the Capital City Go-Go in the NBA G League.

Davis has yet to make an appearance over the first three games of the season for the Wizards entering Tuesday. Unseld has mostly deployed a 10-man rotation in the early going with the veterans on the roster seeing the bulk of the minutes, leaving Davis on the outside.

The Wizards have utilized the Go-Go frequently in the past for their younger players in order to get them playing time. With the regular season tipping off next month in the G League, Davis could soon join the Go-Go, according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.

Davis made four appearances in the preseason, averaging 2.5 points, three rebounds, 1.5 assists and one steal in 19.3 minutes per game. He struggled to shoot from the field after converting only 20.8% from the field and 20% from 3-point range.

The organization was ecstatic to add Davis through the draft, but it is becoming increasingly likely that he will spend much of this season in a developmental role. As a result, Davis could be on assignment with the Go-Go often.

The Go-Go tip off their season on Nov. 5 with the Raptors 905.
