Wisconsin running back Chez Mellusi suffers a serious injury vs. Purdue

Wisconsin running back Chez Mellusi suffered a serious leg injury late in Friday night's 38-17 win over Purdue.

As Mellusi was tackled for a 1-yard loss with 6:37 left in the game and the Badgers holding a 30-17 lead, a Purdue defender came down on the senior's left leg.

He grabbed his leg right away in obvious pain. An air cast was applied to the leg and he was carted off the field.

The entire Badgers team came out as he was taken back to the locker room following what appeared to be a gruesome injury.

The Florida native finished with 39 yards on 11 carries.

Mellusi was in his third season with the Badgers after transferring from Clemson before the 2021 season. Mellusi, who suffered significant injuries in his previous two seasons, was looking for a fresh start in his final season with the Badgers.

He had a huge performance against Buffalo in the season opener, posting 157 yards and had an electrifying 89-yard TD run.

Mellusi entered the game with 258 yards on 40 carries (6.7 average per run) and four touchdowns.
