Wisconsin hockey bolsters offense with addition of Christian Fitzgerald, Simon Tassy

MADISON – Wisconsin men’s hockey coach Mike Hastings announced the addition of two players who could help boost a Badgers' attack that ranked sixth out of seven Big Ten teams in goals scored last season.

Simon Tassy and Christian Fitzgerald, two former Minnesota State players, are officially part of the program. Each announced their intention to transfer to Wisconsin in April and each will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Fitzgerald, who is 6-feet and 178 pounds, comes with a more established college résumé.

He finished second in goals (16) and third in points (29) for Minnesota State last season. Twice he was named the CCHA rookie of the week. At the junior level, he was the British Columbia Hockey League's leading scorer and Coquitlam Pod MVP in 2021 and a member of the United States Hockey League’s Tri-City Storm in 2021-22.

Hastings said Fitzgerald offers “a great combination of size and skating ability, and plays selfless hockey.”

Tassy (6-2, 190) missed the first half of the last season as he recovered from a knee injury. He played 15 games and recorded one goal and four assists for Minnesota State. At the junior level, he was the BCHL most valuable player in 2022 and the BCHL Vernon Pod MVP in 2021.

Hastings called Tassy “a power forward who has shown to be a goal scorer at every level he has played."
