MADISON – Wisconsin coach Greg Gard and his assistants have put in months and months of work on the recruiting trail in an attempt to build a formidable 2024 class.

Now with the AAU summer circuit concluded and the early signing period set to open Nov. 8, the coaches must wait to learn if two of their top prospects will choose to play for UW.

Jackson McAndrew of Wayzata High School in Minnesota and Wisconsin Lutheran’s Kon Knueppel have narrowed their choices and are moving closer to choosing a school.

McAndrew, a 6-foot-10 forward who is one of the better perimeter shooters in his class, on Monday announced his final four schools.

They are: UW, Creighton, Xavier and Notre Dame.

His decision could come before the end of the month.

UW has two commitments for the 2024 class – guard Daniel Frietag and forward Jack Robison. Both are from Minnesota and both are AAU teammates of McAndrew.

Knueppel, a 6-6 guard, has not announced a final list and plans to visit Alabama, Virginia and Duke in September.

Wisconsin, Virginia and Marquette are among the schools that are thought to have the best chance of landing Wisconsin Lutheran's Kon Knueppel, arguably the No. 1 player in the state in the 2024 class. Knueppel also has plans to visit Alabama, Virginia and Duke in September.

McAndrew averaged 16.7 points and eight rebounds per game last season to help Wayzata to the Class AAAA state title. He scored 25 points in the state title game and this spring and summer excelled on the AAU circuit for Howard Pulley.

Knueppel averaged 28.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game on the Nike EYBL Circuit and then performed well at the National Basketball Players Association Top 100 camp.

Gard and assistants Joe Krabbenoft and Sharif Chambliss were in attendance last weekend at Homestead High School to see Knueppel compete with Phenom University.

Adding either McAndrew or Knueppel would give UW an outstanding class. Adding both would be a coup for the staff.

Gard and his staff also have several offers out for the 2025 class.

UW extended early offers to Wauwatosa West center Kai Rogers and guard Davion Hannah, who played last season at Nicolet but is transferring AZ Compass Prep School in Chandler, Arizona.

UW also offered Indiana guard Jalen Haralson, Indiana forward Trent Sisley and Kentucky forward E.J. Walker.

More recently, UW offered three state prospects.

De Pere guard Zach Kinziger, Middleton center Will Garlock and The Prairie School forward La Trevion Fenderson received offers last month during UW’s advanced camp.

Fenderson, the cousin of UW guard Kamari McGee, could reclassify to the 2026 class.

UW was the first Power Five school to offer Kinziger and Fenderson. Garlock also holds offers from Marquette, Penn State and Virginia Tech.
