Winning pitcher Dylan Kindt of Dell Rapids named Class B Legion Player of the Year

REDFIELD — Dylan Kindt tossed 6 1/3 innings of four-hit ball with seven strikeouts to lead Dell Rapids past Elk Point-Jefferson 5-2 in the championship game of the state Class B American Legion Baseball tournament on Tuesday.

Kindt was named the Class B American Legion Player of the Year for a Dell Rapids team that finished 29-3. They had a 28-game winning streak snapped on Monday with a loss to Elk Point-Jefferson, which earned a berth in the championship with an 8-5 win over Tabor in Tuesday's opening game.

Dell Rapids trailed 2-0 before taking the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Mason Stubbe produced two hits. Brayden Pankonen drove in two runs and also got the final two outs on the mound.

Ben Swatek had two hits for EPJ (21-12). Kayden Moore went the distance in the loss.

A five-run uprising in the bottom of the third inning lifted EPJ past Tabor. Tayson Swatek collected three hits and Ty Trometer earned the win on the mound for EPJ.

Landon Bares collected two hits for Tabor, which finished the season with a 21-7 record.

The state title was the first for Dell Rapids since 2018.
