Why JuJu Smith-Schuster is poised for a bounce-back season with the Chiefs

The Chiefs need some “good JuJu” after their crushing AFC Championship Game loss. JuJu Smith-Schuster will try to provide it.

The former Pro Bowler played in only five games last season and hopes to rebound this season in a new scene. The former Steeler wide receiver was widely regarded as one of the premier wideouts in the NFL.

Smith-Schuster agreed to a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs and joins a legitimate Super Bowl contender in an ever-competitive AFC West.

Do not forget that Smith-Schuster had a terific sophomore campaign with 1,400-plus receiving yards. JuJu is still just 25 years old. With targets available in Kansas City due to Tyreek Hill’s departure, and with Patrick Mahomes being JuJu’s new quarterback, 2022 will be a return to form for Smith-Schuster.

The receiver can play from his natural position in the slot and benefit from the playmakers around him. Skyy More, Mecole Hardman, Travis Kelce, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Marquez Valdes‑Scantling will all have a role to play with the Chiefs this season. I think Smith will benefit from solo matchups from the slot position.

Smith-Schuster finished with 15 receptions for 129 receiving yards in his injury-shortened season. He averaged 25.8 receiving yards per game with three receptions per game. For the 2022 season Smith is projected to have 73 receptions, 927 yards and 7 touchdowns.
