The Diamondbacks have switched off the out-of-town scoreboards down the left- and right-field lines, citing an inability to find replacement lightbulbs.

The scoreboards, which listed the score, inning and uniform number of each team’s starting pitcher, have been in a state of disrepair for years, with enough bulbs burnt out that it would make discerning certain details something of a guessing game.

The Diamondbacks decided enough was enough and opted to shut them off for good. The team has yet to come up with a permanent solution for out-of-town scores to be found right away, though it does use a ribbon board in right field to cycle through games one at a time.

The club provided the following statement to The Republic on its decision to pull the plug on the boards:

“The ‘classic look’ of the traditional Chase Field out-of-town scoreboards has been a favorite since the opening of the ballpark.

“Unfortunately, the technology of these classic scoreboards include incandescent lightbulbs that are no longer manufactured or supported.

“We are now displaying out-of-town scores and more game information on other boards in the stadium.

“We are currently working on a digital design that will eventually replace these boards. In the meantime the boards are not operating.”
