Where Oregon stands in ESPN’s final FPI ranking of 2022 season
All but one game of the 2022 college football season is now behind us, with only the Georgia Bulldogs and TCU Horned Frogs left to play in the national championship game.
While that will be a thrilling cap to an incredibly entertaining season, it has left us with the opportunity to assess where everything stands after all is said and done.
For the Oregon Ducks, it was a successful year. Dan Lanning led his squad to a 10-win season in his first year in Eugene. The Ducks met expectations and are set up for an incredibly bright future.
Before we move on from the past, though, we want to take one last look at where the ESPN Football Power Index ranks the Ducks. All season we’ve been using the FPI — a tool that measures a team’s true strength on a net point scale; expected point margin vs. opponent on a neutral field — to give a different view than the College Football Playoff rankings or the Associated Press Top 25.
The rankings are certainly much different. TCU, which will play for the national championship, is ranked 12th, according to FPI. Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns, who finished 8-5, were ranked sixth according to ESPN’s FPI.
So where did the Ducks end up according to the Football Power Index? Let’s take a look.
