WestportdefeatsWilton to win CT Little League Section 1 title, advances to state tournament

Jul. 22—"This is impressive. They put the work in and they are as prepared as any team in Connecticut and just took care of business today," Westport coach Justin Walters said. "Henry Ellis has done that, leading off the game with a home run, for us a few times. That takes the pressure off everyone when he can get us started like that."

Westport moves on to the Connecticut Little League State Tournament this week in Trumbull. Westport will open the state final four by taking on Section 2 champion Shelton at 6 p.m. Wednesday on Unity 1. Shelton defeated Bristol 5-1 Friday night.

Westport added a run in the second on an errant throw back to the pitcher.

They got two more in the fourth on a run-scoring groundout with Walters crossing the plate after leading off the inning with a single. Chris Lambert's double then scored Chase Landgraf, who had also reached on a single.

Westport scored another unearned run in the fifth, making it 5-0.

Walters was simply dominant with the only hit he allowed coming in the form of an infield squib hit to the third baseman.

"All my pitches were working. I try to throw the curve when they are not ready and not expecting it and that keeps them off balance," Nolan Walters said. "Our defense is so good. I don't think we made an error today and I know those guys got my back. It gives me so much confidence."
