The Carlsbad High School basketball teams hit the road this week as winter sports action shifts into high gear.

Cavemen look for revenge in Artesia

At 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bulldog Pit, Carlsbad squares off against Artesia in round two of the Eddy County Basketball War.

Carlsbad (6-7) lost to the Bulldogs during part one Jan. 2 in Carlsbad 58-41. The Cavemen also lost a close game at home Saturday to Rio Rancho 48-47.

Cavegirls travel to Artesia and Las Cruces this week

At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Bulldog Pit, Carlsbad looks to even the score against the Lady Bulldogs who took round one of the Eddy County Basketball War 51-30 in Carlsbad.

The Cavegirls were able to get back on winning footing going 2-1 at the Portales Basketball Shootout.

Friday and Saturday in Las Cruces, the Cavegirls face Organ Mountain and Las Cruces High School.

Carlsbad swim team returns to action this week

Saturday at 11 a.m. in Artesia, the Carlsbad swimmers participate in the Artesia Invitational.

The Cavemen and Cavegirls last saw action during its own invitational Dec. 16.

Carlsbad wrestling travels to Artesia

At 5 p.m. Thursday at Artesia High School, the Cavemen and Cavegirl wrestling teams participate in a dual meeting with its in-county rivals.

Loving Falcons host New Mexico Military Institute

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Loving High School, the Colts face the Falcons for the second time this season.

Loving went 1-2 during last week’s Panther Tournament in Jal and defeated New Mexico Military 55-45.

The two schools square off Jan. 27 in Roswell.

Artesia Bulldogs home before heading north late week

At 7 p.m. Tuesday at Artesia, the Bulldogs host the Carlsbad Cavemen. Artesia travels north to Taos for the North-South Shootout Thursday through Saturday.

The Bulldogs face Los Alamos Thursday, Friday Artesia takes on the host Tigers and Saturday wraps up the road trip with a game against Belen.

Artesia Lady Bulldogs have a mixture of games this week

At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Artesia, the Lady Bulldogs entertain the Carlsbad Cavegirls as part of a three-game set this week.

At 5:30 p.m. Friday at Santa Teresa, Artesia seeks a sweep of the season series against the Lady Desert Warriors. The Lady Bulldogs opened the season with a win at home Nov. 28 against Santa Teresa.

Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Artesia High School, the Lady Bulldogs host Ruidoso.

Artesia swim team hosts invitational this week

At 11 a.m. Saturday in Artesia, the Bulldog and Lady Bulldog swim teams return to action after being off for nearly a month.

This Saturday’s meet indicates the season is winding down with two more invitationals before the district meets in February.
