WEEK 6 HSFB AP POLL: Claremore surges to No. 5 in Class 5A

Oct. 3—Oh, don't mind Claremore.

In a stunning resurgence on the gridiron, the Zebras have soared to the No. 5 spot in the Week 6 Oklahoma High School Football AP Poll, marking their highest ranking since the 2019 season.

Claremore's journey to the No. 5 position in Class 5A is a testament to its unwavering determination and impressive performance on the field. Its last appearance in the top five was in Week 2 of the 2019 season, where it secured the No. 3 ranking after a triumphant 40-28 victory over Bartlesville in the season opener.

This week, the Zebras rose two spots from their previous No. 7 position in the rankings. The catalyst for this impressive climb was their resounding 30-14 victory on the road against Grove, a Class 5A semifinalist in the 2022 season.

Claremore's next challenge comes in the form of a historic rivalry showdown as it faces off against Pryor in the highly anticipated "Battle of Highway 20." A victory in this clash would see the Zebras boasting a 6-0 record for the first time in over four decades, dating back to their memorable 1979 season.

Claremore currently sits at a perfect 5-0 record, a milestone it hasn't reached since the 2012 season. That year, the Zebras went on to finish the regular season with a 9-1 record before ultimately posting a 10-2 mark overall.

It is worth noting that the 2012 squad faced a similar situation in its sixth game, experiencing a nail-biting 20-19 loss to eventual state runner-up East Central. The 2023 Zebras are undoubtedly determined to rewrite history and extend their winning streak in the upcoming Battle of Highway 20.

As the football season unfolds, the Zebras are leaving an undeniable mark on the field, capturing the hearts of fans and achieving heights not seen in years. With their eyes set on victory against Pryor, they are poised to etch their names in the annals of Claremore High School football history.
