Wednesday's Top Prep Performers: Camarillo's Bateman stretches no-hit streak to 23 innings

Highlights from Wednesday in high school sports:

BASEBALL

  • Left-hander Boston Bateman continued his incredibly dominant season on the mound for Camarillo, combining with Victor Tostado for the pair's fourth no-hitter in a 4-0 win over Royal in a Coastal Canyon League game. Bateman, who struck out 15 while walking five in six innings, has thrown 23 no-hit innings this season with no earned runs for a 0.00 ERA while striking out 48 of the 87 batters he has faced. Bateman, who has committed to LSU, had a fastball that was consistently at 93-95 mph and reached 96 mph. Tostado struck out the side in the seventh inning to complete the no-hitter for the Scorpions (7-3, 3-0). Jordan Gutierrez was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Trotter Enright had a double and an RBI to pace the offense. Bateman and Tostado combined for no-hitters in a 4-0 win over Crespi on Feb. 13, a 10-0 win over West Ranch on Feb. 22, and an 8-3 win over Moorpark on March 1. In all three games, Bateman went five innings and Tostado pitched the final two. Isaiah Tillman allowed two hits and no earned runs while striking out five in six innings for the Highlanders (10-3, 2-2).

  • Kyle Casey didn't allow a hit in five innings while striking out six, Evan Rodriguez was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI, Collin Yamamoto went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Landen Adair was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Roan Schmidt went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, and Ryan Ulmen had a double and an RBI to lead Simi Valley (4-3-2, 1-1-1) to a 7-0 win over Oak Park in a Coastal Canyon League game.

  • Aidan Sanchez went 1 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, Ruben Venegas, Allen Macias and Alex Enriquez each had a hit and two RBIs, and Santiago Ramirez allowed three runs on three hits while striking out seven in six innings to lead Santa Paula (4-5, 2-0) to a 12-3 win over Channel Islands in a Citrus Coast League game.

SOFTBALL

  • Analia Lopez allowed three earned runs while striking out 15 in a complete-game performance and was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Jocelyn Gomez went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Jasmine Reyes was 2 for 2 with three walks and an RBI, Hailey Olivera had a hit and two RBIs, and Alyssa Diaz and Jaslene Rios each went 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead unbeaten Rio Mesa (9-0, 5-0) to a 10-4 win over Buena in a Channel League game. Aubrey Trigo went 2 for 3 with a homer and Angelina Delgado was 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Bulldogs.

  • Baylany Magana threw a five-inning one-hitter with five strikeouts, Jiselle Garcia went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Natalie Rodarte was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Layla Mukul was 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Alexis Haro was 2 for 3 with two runs scored to lead Oxnard (8-3, 5-0) to an 11-0 win over San Marcos in a Channel League game.

  • Taylor Cook allowed two runs while striking out nine in five innings, Yasmin Yopinko went 3 for 3 with a double, home run and five RBIs, Lily Johnson was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Janessa Gutierrez had a double and an RBI, and Maya Garza had a hit and an RBI to lead unbeaten Newbury Park (11-0) to an 8-2 win over Ventura in a nonleague game. The Panthers are off to the best start to a season in the history of the program. Aila Leoffler had a double and an RBI for the Cougars (6-4-1).

  • Ilove’a Brittingham went 4 for 4 with a double and two solo home runs, Lily Knox was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs, Rylee McCoy was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Sienna Reynolds allowed five hits while striking out six in six scoreless innings to lead Oaks Christian (6-2) to a 10-0, six-inning win over Chaminade in a nonleague game.

GIRLS TRACK FIELD

  • Oxnard defeated San Marcos 79-48 and Buena 90-37 and San Marcos defeated Buena 80-44 in a tri-Channel League meet at Oxnard High. For Oxnard, Brianna Richards won the 1,600 (5:30.44). Karina Ponce won the 3,200 (12:26.82). Mikayla Oliver won the triple jump (32-11.). Natalie Estrella won the shot put (37-8) and discus (88-11.50). For Buena, Madison Easter won the 100 (12.02) and 200 (24.48). Avery Murphy won the 300 hurdles (50.12). For San Marcos, Ava Carter won the 400 (58.78). Kiala Haas won the 800 (2:28.99). Avery Leck won the 100 hurdles (15.70), high jump (5-03) and the long jump (17-06).

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

  • Oxnard defeated San Marcos 65-62 and Buena 78-49 and San Marcos defeated Buena 65-62 in a tri-Channel League meet at Oxnard High. For Oxnard, Camren Harris won the 100 (11.08). Caleb Marzette won the 200 (22.50). Alejandro Gomez won the 400 (52.20). Luis Aguilera won the shot put (49-01) and discus (139-02). For Buena, Logan Torres won the 800 (2:05.04), 1,600 (4:39.95) and 3,200 (10:06.16). Maxwell Daniel won the 300 hurdles (41.33). Grant Molina won the high jump (6-0). Jordan Watts won the long jump (20-01). Chase Pritchard won the triple jump (42-0.50). For San Marcos, Ethan Ball won the 110 hurdles (15.49).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

  • Nolan Higa finished with 18 assists, eight kills and three blocks, Caleb Eschenberg had nine kills, two blocks and an ace, and Jake Blaine had five kills and three blocks as Newbury Park improved to 3-0 in Marmonte League play with a 25-18, 28-26, 25-18 sweep of Oaks Christian.

  • Westlake earned a 25-19, 25-14, 25-19 sweep of Agoura in a Marmonte League match. Dash Cowley had five kills, 10 assists and an ace and Liam Harary had five kills and two blocks for the Chargers.

BOYS SWIMMING

  • Channel Islands defeated Hueneme 79-73 in a Citrus Coast League meet. For Channel Islands, Jayden Ursua won the 50 freestyle (27.45) and 100 freestyle (1:02.97). Jonathan Xahuentitla won the 500 freestyle (6:36.28) and 100 backstroke (1:21.21). Von Taylan won the 100 breaststroke (1:23.68). For Hueneme, Carlos Vega won the 200 freestyle (2:47.02). Erick Medrano won the 200 IM (2:49.19). Eddie Contreras won the 100 butterfly (1:27.07).

GIRLS SWIMMING

  • Hueneme defeated Channel Islands 75-61 in a Citrus Coast League meet. For Hueneme, Ami Cruz won the 200 freestyle (2:35.92) and 500 freestyle (7:17.26). Sage Velasquez won the 200 IM (3:18.82). Jocelyn Cruz won the 100 butterfly (1:44.81). Sage Velasquez won the 100 breaststroke (1:45.17). For Channel Islands, Evelyn Xahuentitla won the 50 freestyle (34:08). Elizabeth Ramirez won the 100 freestyle (1:16.60). Ximena Vega won the 100 backstroke (2:11.13).

GIRLS LACROSSE

  • Agoura defeated Calabasas 20-9.
