Wednesday's MetroWest and Milford Fantastic Five athletes played for more than themselves

Welcome to February's first Fantastic Five. Say that five times fast.

These athletes secured last-second wins and competed for something more than themselves.

Without further ado, the Fantastic Five MetroWest and Milford high school athletes from Wednesday, Jan. 31:

ASHLAND AND HOPKINTON WRESTLING PROGRAMS

While the friendly neighbor rivals met on the mat, they also came together for something more Wednesday. The Clockers and Hillers hosted their fifth annual Coaches vs. Cancer dual. They raised more than $4,000 for the American Cancer Society in 2024 and the five-event total eclipsed $15,000. A slideshow that honored 170 people connected to the programs that have battled cancer projected onto one wall of the Ashland Middle School gym. Ashland prevailed 54-18 on the scoreboard.

EVAN HYMAN, Natick boys hockey

The junior goalie saved 21 shots to pick up his first varsity win in a 4-1 win over Brookline on Wednesday. Alex Peck had two assists for the Redhawks (7-9). Parker Boyce, James Schnair, Ben Vose and Will Fair each found the net once.

OLLIE KNIGHT, Wellesley wrestling

The junior secured a 39-36 dual win over Weymouth with a pin in the first period on senior night Wednesday.

THOMAS LIDDY, Blackstone Valley Tech hockey

He scored the overtime winner in a 5-4 victory over Hudson on Tuesday. Jack Eastwood, Joe Manzi, Max Krauss and Jacob Selby each found the net once for the Beavers (13-2). Joe Lozoraitis, Brayden Resendes, Jordan Sousa and Toby Edie each found the net once for the Hawks (7-7), which fought back from two goals down twice to send the game to overtime.

LUC MASSE, Marlborough boys hockey

The senior scored two goals with two assists in a 5-1 win over Westborough on Wednesday. Oliver Harris, Colin Glynn and Anthony Tromatozzi each scored once for the Panthers (8-5-1, 3-1-1 Quinn). Marlborough's Hunter Hatstat, Derek Pedreros, Colin Glynn and Chauncey Guenard each contributed an assist. Sawyer Kittredge found the net midway through the third period for Westborough (4-9, 0-4). Daniel Velez and Will McCullough assisted the play.

Boys basketball

AMSA 59, Abby Kelley Foster 25: C.J. Skowronek scored 17 points with five rebounds for the Eagles. Braden DeZutter contributed 14 points with four steals, and Mateo Arrellano compiled 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists for AMSA (5-8, 5-4 Colonial).

Girls basketball

AMSA 60, Abby Kelley Foster 45: Abigail Asman (four 3s) and Riley Whittier scored 14 points each for the Eagles (11-5, 7-1 Colonial) on Wednesday. AMSA's Maeve Powers added 12 points.

Boys ice hockey

AUBURN 3, Hopedale/Milford 0: Nathan Morin sopped 23 shots for the Blue Raiders (4-9-1, 1-4-1 Quinn) on Wednesday.

ASSABET 4, Worcester 2: Jack Dunton and Travis Bermingham had a goal and an assist each for Assabet (2-9-2, 2-5 Russell). Elliott Edwards contributed two assists. Joe Bent and Bryson Haley each scored on the power play, while Ollie Eschelbacher contributed an assist. Sam Laighton made 33 saves.

ARLINGTON 6, Watertown/Wayland 1: Shane Desmond scored for the Raiders on Wednesday.

NATICK 4, Brookline 1: Three Redhawks registered multiple points Wednesday. Junior captain Maggie Connors, Liz Curley and Jordan Digiandomenico each had a goal and an assist for Natick (10-5). Shaylie Rutledge added a goal.

WAYLAND 46, Westford 27: Five pins led the way for the Warriors. Wayland received the fall points from Jaden Kaufman (150), Cole Chase (157), Anthony Brown (175), Nathan Tobe (215) and Nathan Hartunian (285).
