Wednesday Seacoast Roundup: Portsmouth/Newmarket boys hockey falls to Alvirne

DOVER - The Portsmouth/Newmarket high school boys hockey team fell to Alvirne/Milford, 4-1 on Wednesday in a Division II matchup at Dover Ice Arena.

Dom Eaton, assisted by Cal Rothstein and Gabe Ferreira, scored in the first period for Portsmouth/Newmarket (3-8).

"We're just incredibly shorthanded all season, and even more so now," Portsmouth head coach Joel Brown said. "The guys gritted it out. We're proud of them for playing hard."

BOYS HOCKEY

Dover 7

Monadnock 0

DOVER - Cam Bourque had two goals and two assists, and five teammates all scored a goal as Dover (8-3-3) won its fifth straight game in Division II action at Dover Ice Arena.

Bryan Dionne, Owen Culasi, Tyler Buchanan, Patrick Carroll and Caleb Marasca all had one goal for the Green Wave, who scored two goals in the first period, four in the second, and one in the third.

Carroll and Kaiden Lovering both had two assists in the win. Dover goalie JP Alander had 15 saves, earning the shutout.

Oyster River 3

Goffstown 2

MANCHESTER - Talon Beyer had two goals, and Camden Beaupre with one as Oyster River improved to 8-3-2 with this Division II win at Sullivan Arena.

Oyster River goalie Cole Harwood had 17 saves.

St. Thomas Aquinas 4

Somersworth/Coe-Brown 3

ROCHESTER - Connor Gray's goal just 30 seconds into overtime lifted St. Thomas Aquinas (6-9) in Division II action at Rochester Ice Arena.

Colton Woods, Jackson Estes, and Rolly Edgerly all scored for the Saints, who are now 6-9 on the season. STA goalie Zack Pattow had 24 saves.

Tully Keefe, Landon Midwood and Dylan Buroval all scored for Somersworth/Coe-Brown.

Merrimack 3

Spaulding 2

ROCHESTER - Ryan Dube and Drew Tremblay both scored a goal for Spaulding (5-6-2), which suffered its fifth one-goal loss after this Division II contest at Rochester Ice Arena.

Trevor Brennan and Tyler Jean each had an assist for the Red Raiders, who got 34 saves from goalie Collin McIntyre.

Timberlane 1

SALEM - Cam Carnes, Alec Mitchell and Nolan Rennie all had two goals for Winnacunnet (11-2) in this Division II win at the Icenter.

Drew Marelli, Alex Santora, Brock Emery, Brady Thompson and Tyler Blank all had one.

GIRLS HOCKEY

EXETER - Kaelyn Cooper had three goals, and Paige Karam had two goals and one assist for Exeter in a Division I contest at The Rinks at Exeter.

Madison Mann, Hailey O'Kane and Savana Ritz all scored for the Blue Hawks. Exeter goalie Maria Mongue had six saves, earning the shutout.

EXETER - Brady Rogers was one of three Blue Hawks in double figures, leading Exeter (9-4) to this Division I win. It was the fourth straight win for the Blue Hawks, and their fifth in six games.

Rogers had a game-high 23 points, while Nate McNeff had 13 and Jack Thibodeau had 10.

KITTERY, Maine - Jack Downs had 24 points and Nick Martine added 20 for Traip in this Class C South loss.

Marshwood’s Prewitt wins giant slalom 

BRIDGTON, Maine – Marshwood’s Hadley Prewitt had combined time of 59.74 seconds, placing first in an eight-team giant slalom at Pleasant Mountain Ski Area.

Falmouth won with a team score of 14, while Kennebunk (47), Marshwood (62), Gorham (67) and Scarborough (95) rounded out the top five.

Other Marshwood skiers included Sarah McClellan (15th, 1:13.52), Annika Oberg (17th, 1:14.09) and Rowan Waddell (29th, 1:20.13).

BOYS ALPINE SKIING

Marshwood’s Maguire second in giant slalom 

BRIDGTON, Maine – Marshwood’s Quinn Maguire had a combined time of 59.53 seconds, placing second in an eight-team giant slalom at Pleasant Mountain Ski Area.

Falmouth won with a team score of 15, while Marshwood (40), Kennebunk (50), Cheverus (68) and Windham (78) rounded out the top five.

Other Marshwood skiers included Reid Chamberlain (10th, 1:04.71), Lucas Glidden (11th, 1:05.4) and Troy Bascio (17th, 1:08.89).
