Wednesday roundup: Breezie Williams leads GlenOak girls basketball team past McKinley

Girls basketball

Breezie Williams scored 21 points to lead GlenOak past McKinley 57-40 in a Federal League girls basketball game on Wednesday.

Kylie Dyrlund added 14 points for the Golden Eagles, who improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Paris Stokes led McKinley with 16 points.

JACKSON 57, LAKE 32 Emma Dretke hit seven 3s and scored a season-high 25 points as the Polar Bears evened their record at 2-2. Jackson jumped out to a 32-13 halftime lead and was never threatened. Lauren Pallotta hit four 3s and finished with 16 points for the Polar Bears. Leena Patibandla added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Wendy Tobin led Lake with 9 points and eight rebounds.

PERRY 60, ST. VINCENT-ST. MARY 56 Mia Guscoff scored a game-high 22 points and Meredith Randulic finished with 16 as the Panthers held off the Irish.

HOOVER 35, GREEN 27 Lauren Rose scored 12 points to lead the Vikings to their sixth straight win to start the season.

MARLINGTON 62, HOWLAND 51 Chelsea Evanich’s double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds led the Dukes in a physical game that included 40 fouls and 51 free throws attempted. Marlington finished 23 of 28 from the line. Maria Warner hit all eight of her free throws and finished with 13 points. Ava Collins scored 11 points off the bench. Lexi Miller finished with 10.

MINERVA 58, ALLIANCE 47 Jenna Cassidy hit five 3s and scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Lions past the Aviators. Cassidy and Bella Murray had four steals apiece for Minerva, which outscored Alliance 35-24 in the second half. Hera Hoffee grabbed nine rebounds and handed out six assists.

WEST BRANCH 62, FITCH 38 The Warriors built a 38-18 halftime lead and rolled to an easy non-league win. Sydney Mercer scored 17 points and Sophia Gregory finished with 15 points and six rebounds for West Branch.

NORTHWEST 54, TRIWAY 39 Lily Bottomley’s double-double of 31 points and 14 rebounds led Northwest past Triway. Northwest improved to 6-0.

FAIRLESS 42, ORRVILLE 33 Grace Lyon scored a game-high 14 points for the Falcons, who improved to 4-0. Kam Kondrach added 12 points and Gracie Ashton finished with 11 for Fairless.

CVCA 57, MANCHESTER 24 Mackenzie Moss and Rylie Petroff scored 5 points apiece for the Panthers in their PAC-7 loss to the Royals.

SOUTHEAST 41, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 38 The Pirates outscored the Knights 25-13 in the second half in a come-from-behind win. Avery Bussey and Jo Smith scored 11 points apiece to lead St. Thomas Aquinas.

SANDY VALLEY 46, GARAWAY 24 Lexi Tucci scored 11 points to lead Sandy Valley to an Inter-Valley Conference wi. The Cardinals broke open the game in the third quarter when they outscored Garaway 19-5.

STRASBURG 53, EAST CANTON 23 Tori Reichard scored 9 points for the Wizards in their loss to the Tigers.

MALVERN 55, CONOTTON VALLEY 6 Lanie Bower and Maddie Powers scored 17 points apiece for the Hornets in their win over the Rockets. Powers also grabbed eight rebounds.

TUSKY VALLEY 60, INDIAN VALLEY 26 Ashley Merrick finished with 19 points and seven steals and Brook Stookey had 17 points and seven rebounds in the Trojans’ win over Indian Valley.

Men’s basketball

MOUNT UNION 93, JOHN CARROLL 83 Darrell Newsom scored a career-high 29 points as the 17th-ranked Purple Raiders bounced back after their first loss of the season. Newsom hit 5 of 7 3-pointers and finished 11 of 14 from the field overall. His previous season high was 12 points in a Nov. 20 win over Adrian. Ethan Stanislawski finished with 19 points for Mount Union (6-1, 1-1). He scored his 1,000th career point. Braedon Poole scored 18 points and Chris Painter Jr. added 17.

Women’s basketball

JOHN CARROLL 69, MOUNT UNION 56 Nicole Heffington scored 20 points as the fourth-ranked Blue Streaks improved to 6-0 with a win over the Purple Raiders. Emma Cannon led Mount Union (2-3, 1-2) with 17 points. Maddy Miles grabbed 10 rebounds.
