Webb's personal-best round leads Sturgis to conference title

THREE RIVERS — The Sturgis golf team is at it again.

On Thursday afternoon, Ken Schau and the Lady Trojans took a lead into the Wolverine Conference championships to end the regular season. They would not relinquish the lead and instead cemented another strong finish. Sturgis won the conference championship on the day, shooting a team score of 352 at Pine View Golf Club.

The 352 is the second-best score for Sturgis at an 18-hole event in school history.

"The girls have worked very hard to reach this goal of conference champions," Schau said.

The league title is the sixth in the past nine years for Sturgis.

Maddy Webb finished with a round of 78 on Thursday, it helped her seal up the Most Outstanding Golfer of the Year award.

For the day, Sturgis recorded three personal best rounds, including Maddy Webb. She fired a 78, this helped her lock up the league's Most Outstanding Golfer award for the season. This was based on best scoring average for the year.

Citori Kosmerick shot a 92. Both Kosmerick and Webb were named First Team All-Conference. Mia Martinez shot a personal-best round of 89 on the day and Aspen Hyska carded a 100. Both Hyska and Martinez were named to the honorable mention squad for the season.

Piper Sterling shot a 93, Hannah Falkenstein added a personal-best round of 97 on the day.

Schau was named as the Wolverine Conference Coach of the Year as well.

Here's a look at Week 6 football games in the area

Sturgis' 352 beat Vicksburg's charge with 357. Edwardsburg shot 379 followed by Paw Paw (380), Plainwell (388), Otsego (394), Niles (459) and Three Rivers with a 463.

Three Rivers was led by Lily Zabonick, she shot a round of 104. Maggie Gose had a personal-best round of 114 while Cassandra Gillette shot a 122, also a personal best. Ashton Ware ended with a 123.
