This is the weakest Champions League field in recent memory

The Champions League makes it welcome return this week, with the penultimate round of group stage games. The biggest prize in domestic soccer comprises Europe’s elite teams, but, to paraphrase George Orwell, some teams are more elite than others. Typically, a cabal of 5-6 teams will muscle their way into the final four, creating a relatively small possible combination of finalists.

However, this year the field is much more open—because the good teams aren’t that good!

The failings of some of Europe’s biggest sides means it’s a weaker field in the competition but season—but that definitely isn’t a bad thing… watch the video above to get my pick on who will hoist this year’s trophy.
