The New Orleans Saints preseason can’t end enough soon…or can it?

Their preseason has been miserable, getting strongly outplayed in all three games, and they’re 0-3. The offense has been out of sync with the starters in, and the defense has been playing much worse than 2014 and 2015 combined. That’s saying a lot.

This team has one more chance to get it together before they host the Oakland Raiders Week 1. With the team in desperate need of confidence before the real season starts, you really can’t help but wonder. Do they want preseason to end so they can finally start the real football, or do they need more preseason games until they actually look good?

Drew Brees and the starters are going to be fine in Week 1, when’s the last time Brees has been bad with the Saints? Oh yeah, never.

But their defense needs to get some work in, so don’t be surprised if they start the full first half. Dennis Allen needs to see these guys in action before they face off against Oakland’s prolific offense. It’s that simple.

Other than that, there isn’t all that much to pay attention to. The starters on offense are basically set, but there are jobs at stake on defense. Can Vonn Bell outshine Jairus Byrd and force the latter to miss the 53-man roster?

There are jobs on the line, so these Saints guys will give it everything they got. So sit back, and watch the last week of meaningless football. Because after that…
