Miguel Cabrera, future Hall of Famer, Triple Crown winner, two-time MVP, World Series champion ... we could keep going ... will play the final game of his storied career on Sunday, and thanks to the schedulemakers over at MLB headquarters, he'll get to do it in front of his home fans at Comerica Park.

Sunday shapes up to be the ending to a storybook career filled with a never-ending list of impressive statistics.
Cabrera is a member of an elite club of players who combined prolific power and contact. As you've probably heard by now, he's one of only seven players in MLB history to have 3,000 hits and 500 home runs (Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro, Eddie Murray, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Cabrera). But he's also a member of an even more elite club of guys with 3,000 hits, 500 home runs and 600 doubles (it's as easy as A-C-P — Aaron, Cabrera and Pujols). Any way you spin it, Cabrera is one of the greatest hitters in the history of the sports, and Detroit fans were lucky he spent 16 of those seasons wearing the Old English "D."
For his final outing, Cabrera will face a pitcher he's gotten to know well over the years in the American League Central. Lucas Giolito gets the start for the Guardians after spending 6 1/2 seasons with the Chicago White Sox, then going to the Los Angeles Angels for a brief six-game stint before bizarrely getting waived and signing with Cleveland. Giolito has made six starts now with Cleveland and has posted a 6.66 ERA and a 1-3 record. Cabrera's 37 at-bats against Giolito are more than anyone on the Tigers; he has a not-so-great .189 batting average, but that comes with two home runs against the right-hander.
Meanwhile, the Tigers will have Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound for what could be his last start for the Tigers. Rodriguez was dominating in the first half of the season, but hasn't been the same player since returning from a finger injury in July. E-Rod has an opt-out in his contract and in all likelihood will become a free agent and either re-up with the Tigers on a new deal or move on to a new team. Either way, after an up-and-down second half, putting an exclamation point on his 2023 campaign certainly wouldn't hurt his value.
