WATCH: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes scores opening TD on speed option

The Kansas City Chiefs are on the board first after a tendency-breaking first drive from Andy Reid’s offense.

When you think about the Chiefs, you’re typically thinking about a high-powered passing attack centered around Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill. This time around their opening drive had more running plays than it did passing plays. They got things started with a 4-yard reverse to Tyreek Hill and some between-the-tackles running from Darrel Williams. Then they capped the drive off with a one-yard speed option touchdown run by Mahomes to the short side of the field.

Check out the opening score from the man himself:

This is the first time the Chiefs have scored a touchdown on the opening drive since their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in Week 12. It’s the first rushing touchdown for Mahomes since Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Chiefs fans probably don’t want to see Mahomes doing too much running today, but the Browns didn’t seem to have an answer for it. They didn’t seem to have an answer for much of what Kansas City did on that opening drive. If they can come back out and continue to march down the field like that, it’ll make it tough on Cleveland.
