New Washington safety Darrick Forrest speaks to the media
The Washington Football Team wanted to add a safety in the 2021 NFL draft. As a result, many believed Washington would look for one of the top safeties in the draft on the first two days.
However, Washington had other targets in mind. In the fifth round, Washington selected Cincinnati safety, Darrick Forrest.
Forrest was a multi-year starter for the Bearcats, which was one of the best defenses in the nation over the last few years.
After his selection, Forrest spoke to the local media and said Washington had shown interest in him throughout the entire pre-draft process.

Apparently, Washington’s coaches really believe Forrest can make an immediate impact on special teams.
Darrick Forrest is addressing the media now. He said he felt like Washington likes his special teams value and spoke to two of the team's ST coaches. He's looking forward to carving out his role there.

Forrest spoke of his strengths, one of which is versatility. We know this coaching staff prioritizes versatility.
Forrest said he feels like he is pretty versatile and will perform no matter where he is placed on defense, whether it's at strong or free safety.

Forrest is a leader.
Forrest said he grew a lot as a leader in the secondary at Cincy and made sure he and his teammate practiced like champions every day.

With all of these qualities, it’s easy to see why Washington zeroed in on Forrest early in the draft process.
