Washington’s Chase Young gives his take on the taunting penalties | You Pod to Win the Game

Young also saw the taunting penalty assessed to the Bears’ Cassius Marsh on Monday Night Football against the Steelers and shares his opinion on that call. CHARLES ROBINSON: All right, we're joined by reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowler Chase Young of the Washington Football Team. Chase, welcome to You Pod to Win the Game. And I know you're working with USAA for Veterans Day this week. Obviously, Veterans Day's on Thursday. And we want to get to that in just a minute.
But I know it's been a point of emphasis, and you've probably heard it from the coaching staff there. The taunting rule continues every week to some examples that are pretty interesting. Obviously, the Monday night game, there was a pretty wild flag that took place.
CHASE YOUNG: [INAUDIBLE]
CHARLES ROBINSON: What did you think of that incident in particular, and then maybe even just the idea of sort of trying to have to control your emotions, as a player, in the middle of a game that is always played at the height of emotion?
CHASE YOUNG: I mean, you know.
[LAUGHTER]
It's like you're letting us out [INAUDIBLE] cages. It's like we can't really-- it's like we can show our emotions, but then you got to get a hold of them real fast.
But I did see the play yesterday. I really didn't think he did anything honestly.
CHARLES ROBINSON: Yeah.
CHASE YOUNG: He could have been looking at the fans on the sideline.
CHARLES ROBINSON: Right.
CHASE YOUNG: Who say [? why-- ?] I feel like he was just assuming that he was looking at the other-- you just don't know. You really don't know.
CHARLES ROBINSON: Yeah. It almost looked like when he bumped the official, like he grazed the official leaving the field, and it clearly looked like it was on accident, that that's sort of won the flag all of a sudden became-- are you like, all right--
CHASE YOUNG: It looked like the ref bump him. That's what it looked like to me.
CHARLES ROBINSON: Are you like, just take a really wide angle from now on when--
CHASE YOUNG: I mean, he was running. I feel like the ref was walking up a little bit. And I feel like when the ref seen him coming, he just like stop.
CHARLES ROBINSON: Yeah, I've seen some slow motion replays where people are like, the ref actually sticks his hip out or backs into him.
CHASE YOUNG: The ref stick his-- hey, I think he stuck his hip out.
[LAUGHTER]
I do.
CHARLES ROBINSON: Well, I can definitely understand the difficulty of having to rein in your emotions during the course of a game. It's always wild.
Well, I'll tell you what, as I mentioned at the top, it's Veterans Day this Thursday. I know you're working with something special coming up with USAA for the occasion. Can you tell me a little bit just what that partnership's all about?
CHASE YOUNG: Yeah, man, basically partnering up with USAA and just basically showing up, just thanking the 2.5 billion business owners, and really just showing everybody how important this day is, and just trying to put more praise on it, man, because I have just respect for people like my grandfather who served. And there's a lot of veterans out there who deserve it.
CHARLES ROBINSON: So your grandfather served. My grandfather actually served as well. That's interesting. So you actually have family that's been touched by the military.
CHASE YOUNG: Yeah, yeah, he was in the Air Force.
CHARLES ROBINSON: Oh, wow, that's awesome.
CHASE YOUNG: Yeah.
CHARLES ROBINSON: Did he fly planes?
CHASE YOUNG: I don't believe so.
CHARLES ROBINSON: OK.
[LAUGHTER]
That's always--
CHASE YOUNG: I don't believe so.
CHARLES ROBINSON: I'm 6 [? foot ?] 4, and I always thought if I could squeeze myself into a plane, that would be a lifelong dream.
CHASE YOUNG: Oh, you're not-- you can't do it. Mm-mm. I can't either.
