Want to see some of the area's top high school athletes? The NWPA Sports Awards is Friday
The Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Sports Awards, presented by AHN Sports Medicine at Saint Vincent, will honor the area’s top-performing athletes, coaches and teams from the 2022-23 school year during a live show Friday at Bayfront Convention Center.
The event will honor more than 300 of the region’s top high school athletes in more than 23 sports, as well as top coaches and teams. Several major awards will also be presented, including Girls Athlete of the Year, Boys Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Courage Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and Groundbreaker Award.
Winners will be announced during the show.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers fullback Derek Watt is the featured speaker. A former sixth-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers, where he played from 2016-2019, Watt played the last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Watt grew up in Wisconsin with his future NFL brothers J.J. and T.J. Watt.

The Northwest Pennsylvania High School Sports Awards is part of the USA Today High School Sports Awards program, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country. What to know if you go
Here's what you need to know about the 2023 Greater Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Sports Awards:
When: Friday, June 23. Doors open at 6 p.m. for reception and photos. Show starts at 7 p.m.
Where: Bayfront Convention Center located at 1 Sassafras Pier in Erie. Parking is available at the Bayfront Convention Center Parking Garage.
Nominated athletes: All nominated athletes must register for a free ticket. Nominated athletes register at bit.ly/NWPAnomineetix.
Tickets: All guests of nominated athletes need tickets for entry. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets can be purchased at bit.ly/NWPAawardstix.
