Glenn's Lydia Goodsell wins South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week vote, May 6-12, 2024

Congratulations to John Glenn freshman Lydia Goodsell on winning the South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week vote for May 6-12, 2024. Goodsell edged Elkhart's Greg Guest in the vote to take home the honors.

Here's more on those two nominees, plus the other five from this past week.

WINNER: John Glenn track freshman Lydia Goodsell

Goodsell made an impact in her first NIC girls track championship meet, winning three events: the 100-meter dash (12.39 seconds), the 200-meter dash (25.57 seconds) and the long jump (18-05 feet).

OTHER NOMINEES

Elkhart baseball junior Greg Guest

Guest had a productive week at the plate for the Lions, totaling nine RBIs in four games, with Elkhart going 3-1 in those contests. The highlight was a five-RBI performance in a 15-7 win over Bremen.

LaPorte track junior Tayshaun Williams

Williams won three events at the DAC boys track championship meet, setting school records in the 100-meter dash (10.76 seconds) and 200-meter dash (21.68 seconds) while also running one of the legs of the winning 4X400-meter relay (3:24.42). He also helped the Slicers finish second in the 4X100-meter relay.

LaVille track senior Lincoln Hulsey

Along with winning the pole vault competition — which he's tops in the state in — Hulsey won three races for the Lancers at the HNAC championship meet: the 100-meter dash (11.36 seconds), the 400-meter dash (51.60 seconds) and the 4X400-meter relay (3:39.64).

Mishawaka Marian baseball senior Bryce LaSane

LaSane batted an impressive .467 across five games this week with three doubles, a home run and eight RBIs.

Penn track senior Elijah Coker

Coker was a four-time champion at the NIC boys track championship meet, winning in the 100-meter dash (10.81 seconds), 200-meter dash (21.96 seconds), 4X100-meter relay (42.29 seconds) and long jump (22-05 feet).

South Bend Washington track sophomore Adrianna Swanson

A three-time winner at the NIC girls track championship, Swanson triumphed in the 100-meter hurdles (15.38 seconds), the 300-meter hurdles (46.39 seconds) and the 4x100-meter relay (50.38 seconds).
