Vote for the Oklahoma City-area boys high school athlete, team of the week

The Oklahoman's boys winter sport athletes of the week poll for Feb. 13-19 presented by Landmark Fine Homes is now live at oklahoman.com.

The Oklahoman is also conducting polls for a boys team of the week.

Voting is open until noon Sunday. You don't have to be a subscriber to vote, and you can cast one vote every hour, per device.

The winners of the Feb. 6-12 poll were Pauline Black-Harmon of El Reno girls basketball, Quincy Hopkins of Carl Albert boys basketball, Beau Tinder of Tuttle wrestling and Edmond North wrestlingfor team of the week.

Boys team of the week nominees

Carl Albert swimming: The Class 5A Titans made school history last week, winning their first boys swimming state title. Carl Albert dominated as it finished with 419.5 points and well ahead of Altus (270.5).

Choctaw boys basketball: The Yellowjackets closed the regular season crowned as District 6A-4 champs following a key win over Jenks in overtime. Choctaw finished the regular season 18-4 with just two losses in district play.

Del City wrestling: The Eagles nearly won the Class 5A East Regional last week. They finished as the runner-up with 214.5 points, while Coweta won with 217.

Edmond North boys basketball: After dropping its first game to Oklahoma competition in nearly two years, the reigning two-time Class 6A champion Huskies bounced back with 30-point wins over Piedmont and Edmond Santa Fe.

Midwest City boys basketball: With a 59-point win over Southeast, the Bombers clinched a District 5A-2 title while going undefeated against Class 5A competition. Midwest City's 20-3 season comes in the first year of coach Torey Noel's reign since winning six games total in 2023.

Boys basketball

Nate Benford, Sr., Guthrie: Benford showed up in all facets when the Bluejays needed it most. The Emporia State football commit combined for 20 points to go along with 22 rebounds and nine steals in district wins over Crossings Christian and El Reno.

Kobe Freeman, Jr., Purcell: The Dragons’ starting point guard added to his breakout junior season in a district matchup against Bridge Creek. Freeman accounted for more than half of Purcell’s points, totaling 32 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Rashaud Smith, Sr., Heritage Hall: The East Central football signee had a stellar outing in the Chargers’ regional district win over Star Spencer. Smith scored 22 points while grabbing nine rebounds as Heritage Hall advanced to play at Jones in the regional playoffs.

Ja'Mon Valentine, Sr. Choctaw: Valentine sought revenge against rival Jenks en route to a District 6A-4 clinching win. The Seminole State signee went off for a team-high 20 points, while scoring seven of Choctaw’s 13 overtime points in the victory.

Swimming

Keegan Lassiter, Sr., Mount St. Mary: The highlight of his day at the Class 5A state meet was in the 100-yard butterfly, which he finished in 54.08 seconds for the title.

Max Spory, So., Edmond Memorial: He claimed the Class 6A state championship in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:37.13.

Jack Starrett, Jr., Edmond North: He had three wins at the Class 6A state meet. Starrett claimed the title in the 200 freestyle (1:40.28) and helped Edmond North win the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.48) and 400 freestyle relay (3:08.84).

JD Thumann, So., Norman: He added two more Class 6A state titles after winning two last season. Thumann won the 50 freestyle in 20.15 and 100 butterfly in 47.86.

Wrestling

Gavin Rich, So., Blanchard: He had a strong tournament at the Class 4A West Regional. Rich claimed the title at 215 pounds.

Evan Colbert, Jr., Del City: He was the champion at 106 pounds at the Class 5A East Regional.

Kaedin Herendeen, Jr., Guthrie: He claimed the 113-pound title at the Class 5A West Regional. Herendeen sealed the championship with a 3-2 decision over Elgin’s Hunter Jackson.

Devon Miller, Jr., Edmond North: The Navy commit won the Class 6A West Regional at 120 pounds. Miller had a huge victory in the finals, beating Piedmont star and OU signee Cash Donnell in a 3-2 tiebreaker. Edmond North won the team title.
