Vote for the Oklahoma City-area boys high school athletes, team of the week

The Oklahoman's boys winter sport athletes of the week poll for Feb. 20-26 presented by Landmark Fine Homes is now live at oklahoman.com.

The Oklahoman is also conducting polls for a boys team of the week.

Voting is open until noon Sunday. You don't have to be a subscriber to vote, and you can cast one vote every hour, per device.

The winners of the Feb. 13-19 boys polls were Heritage Hall's Rashaud Smith (basketball), Mount St. Mary's Keegan Lassiter (swimming) and Edmond North's Devon Miller (wrestling). The winner for boys team of the week was Midwest City basketball.

Boys teams of the week

Dale basketball: The Pirates have won 22 of their last 23 games behind the electric play of OU commit Dayton Forsythe. The two-time defending Class 2A state champions are the clear favorites to pull off a three-peat for the first time in school history.

Edmond North wrestling: The Class 6A Huskies had a record-breaking performance as they won their second state tournament title and first since 2013. Edmond North set a state tournament record with 260½ points. The Huskies had 14 state placers, which was also a record, and all those wrestlers finished at least in the top three.

Mount St. Mary basketball: The 10th-ranked Rockets have won 11 games in a row behind the stellar play of Jodie Shavers and Swiss Army knife guard Eli Jones. Mount St. Mary has been on a tear in 2024 and has recorded an above .500 record versus 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A competition.

Norman basketball: The Tigers have won 15 consecutive games following a dominant regional championship win this weekend. Friday’s victory over Westmoore marked the first 20-win season for Norman in 20 years in coach Cory Cole’s third season.

Tuttle wrestling: The Class 4A Tigers extended their state tournament championship streak to 16. Their streak is a state record, and they have 21 overall.

Basketball

Beau Billingsley, So., Norman: The Tigers' starting guard has found a groove during Norman's 15-game win streak. In a regional championship win over Westmoore, Billingsley scored 20 points while dishing five assists.

Garrett Loper, Jr., Westmoore: Loper stepped up significantly for the Jaguars in an elimination game against Edmond Santa Fe. The junior went off for 31 points and ten rebounds while hitting six 3-pointers to secure a spot in the area tournament.

Xon Williams, Sr., Millwood: The senior has been the outspoken leader for the fifth-ranked Falcons in Dorrian Williams' inaugural season as coach. In Millwood's regional match with Casady, Xon scored 18 points while adding five steals in the win.

Phoenix Woodson, So., Crossings Christian: Woodson has been a force all season as the man in the middle for the 18-6 Knights. The sophomore erupted in a regional championship victory over Del City, totaling 17 points, 22 rebounds and six blocks.

Wrestling

Deontre Buttram, Sr., Del City: He won his first state title Saturday. Buttram was the Class 5A champion at 175 pounds.

Beric Jordan, Sr., Noble: The OU signee, who claimed two state titles in Ohio before wrestling at Stillwater as a junior, won his first Oklahoma state title. A year ago he finished as the Class 6A 113-pound runner-up. Last weekend, Jordan was the Class 5A champion at 120 pounds and finished 39-0 this season.

JJ McComas, Sr., Stillwater: The Oklahoma State signee won the Class 6A title at 132 pounds. McComas is now a two-time state champion.

Tyler Misenheimer, Jr., Blanchard: He won the Class 4A 126-pound title, beating Tuttle’s Rylend Slovern in a 4-1 decision in the finals.

Layton Schneider, Sr., Edmond North: He claimed his second straight Class 6A title at 144 pounds. Schneider, who will continue his career at Air Force, was named the Outstanding Wrestler for Class 6A.

Ethan Teague, Jr., Tuttle: The Oklahoma State commit won the Class 4A title at 175 pounds and finished the season with a 37-0 record.
