Vote now for your Tuscaloosa area athlete of the week, week of May 6-10

It is time to vote for the athlete of the week from the Tuscaloosa area for the week of May 6-10.

Hillcrest's Jamie Hughley won the girls poll last week with 63% of votes, while Bibb County's Bodie Giddens won the boys poll with 70% of votes. Nominees for athlete of the week come from the top performers the week before. Voting will remain open until noon Thursday.

Tuscaloosa area athlete of the week nominations

  • Baylee Appling, Northside softball, had a 3-0 record in the circle at the 4A Central Regional Tournament with one earned run allowed over 16 innings.

  • Jewel Brooks, Hillcrest softball, went 10-for-19 from the plate in the 6A Central Regional Tournament, scoring six runs to go with four RBIs.

  • Eric Hines, ACA baseball, went 5-for-6 with two RBIs, scoring three runs in the series sweep over Bibb County.

  • Kenna Beth Lacy, Winfield softball, went 6-for-8 from the plate with three RBIs in the 3A North Regional.

  • Coltyn Mitchell, ACA baseball, started on the mound in game two of the series, pitching a complete game, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out 12.
