Lakeland voted North Jersey Football Team of the Week for Week 2

After four days of voting, Lakeland was selected as the North Jersey Football Team of the Week.

The Lancers (3-0) equaled last year’s win total by scoring the final three TDs in a 20-7 victory over Ramsey. They ran for almost 200 yards, with Jeremy O’Hernandez rushing for two TDs. Brennan Stocker’s 75-yard TD run in the second quarter tied it. Michael Sabric had nine tackles and O’Hernandez seven.

Here were the other nominees:

Becton

The Wildcats (2-0) defeated Lodi, 30-7, and have won their first two games for the first time since 2020 and only the second time in seven seasons. Jonathan Palsi had TD runs of 2, 15 and 14 yards. Brandon Williams returned a fourth-quarter interception 30 yards for a TD to extend the lead to 23-7.

Bergenfield

The Bears (1-1) defeated River Dell, 28-26, after losing this matchup each of the previous three years by a combined score of 87-31. Gabe Perez threw for 203 yards and a TD, ran for 174 yards and a score and made 11 tackles, including two for losses. Josh Hur kicked a 25-yard field goal in the fourth.

Fair Lawn

The Cutters won their season opener for the first time since 2018. They beat Indian Hills, 13-9, after losing to the Braves each of the past two seasons. The Cutters registered both TDs in the fourth, with Cooper Peck tossing a scoring pass to Matt Dunn and Eddy Guy returning a punt.

Lyndhurst

The Golden Bears (2-0) topped New Milford, 35-0, marking their first shutout since 2019. Shawn Bellenger threw TD passes to Matthew Jarvis, Cameron Werner, and Roddy Morinho, who also ran for a score. Robby Thomson had four tackles, three for losses, and returned a blocked punt 10 yards for a TD.

Mahwah

The T-Birds (2-0) equaled last year’s win total with a 53-7 victory over Tenafly and it’s their first 2-0 start since 2020. They scored on their first six possessions, with Joey DeMarco, Presto Duffy and Danny McClanahan rushing for TDs and Elijah Dickson returning a pickoff for a score for a 27-0 first-quarter lead.

Old Tappan

The Golden Knights (2-0) defeated fellow state public power Northern Highlands, 28-7. Alex Orecchio threw for 203 yards, featuring TD passes of 21 and 51 yards to Ronan Malady. Orecchio and Nicholas Rossi scored on runs to help the reigning NJSIAA Group 3 champions extend their lead to 28-0.

Pascack Hills

The Broncos (2-0) stamped themselves as an SFC Ivy title contender with a 23-22 victory over Teaneck. Calen Ahern kicked field goals of 37, 36 and 44 yards, the last of which came in the fourth and provided the winning points. Connor Ohnekian threw TD passes to Mike Weaver and Jake Polsky.
