Vote for the Greater Columbus high school boys lacrosse regular season player of the year

The Ohio High School Athletic Association boys lacrosse tournament starts this week, the beginning of a three-week journey that culminates in the state finals June 8 at Historic Crew Stadium.

Dublin Jerome seeks to repeat as Division I champions and win its third title in four years. Central Ohio teams have won four consecutive big-school championships.

With the regular season finished, it’s time to determine who has been the top boys lacrosse player in central Ohio so far. Vote for your choice among the eight candidates in this poll. The deadline is 4 p.m. Friday.

In addition, keep an eye out for the annual All-Metro teams for spring sports in the days following the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards show, which is June 20 at Mershon Auditorium.

Elliot Baur, Watterson

A senior goalie and defending Division II, Region 7 Player of the Year, Baur made 128 saves and allowed 81 goals during the regular season. Baur is a three-time all-Ohioan and was All-American a season ago.

Joey Clifford, Hilliard Davidson

A senior, Clifford is the top defender for the Wildcats (12-6), who are ninth statewide and third in Division I, Region 3. Clifford caused 32 turnovers during the regular season and picked up 65 ground balls.

Cole Fisher, Worthington Kilbourne

The junior attacker owns program records for career goals (171 through 17 games) and points (290), surpassing marks that had stood for 28 years. Kilbourne (9-9) is the No. 4 seed in Region 3.

Tommy Janowicz, Upper Arlington

The senior attacker and Ohio State signee, who has seen time in the midfield and on defense this season, leads the top-ranked Golden Bears (15-3) with 60 points. Janowicz is a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter.

Jack Kennedy, Jonathan Alder

The senior attacker and Otterbein signee has 66 goals, 34 assists and 64 ground balls to lead the Pioneers (12-5) to the seventh seed in Region 7.

Angelo Lamatrice, Watterson

The senior midfielder, three-time all-state honoree and OSU signee has 72 goals, 20 assists and 92 points for an Eagles (15-1) team that earned the top seed in Region 7.

Eli Nicol, Jonathan Alder

Nicol had 161 saves during the regular season, stopping 58% of the shots he faced and clearing over 70%. He made a season-high 23 saves against 2023 Division II state runner-up DeSales, 19 against Bexley and 16 against Columbus Academy.

Jake Struck, Olentangy Liberty

The junior midfielder and Ohio State signee has 57 goals, 21 assists, 62 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers for the Patriots (16-1), the second-ranked team statewide and top seed in Division I, Region 1.
