Student athletes from Brophy Prep and Basha high schools were selected as The Arizona Republic's boys and girls athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. They were chosen by readers in polls posted on azcentral.com earlier this week for their recent performances.

Ryan Burbach, Brophy Prep basketball, was chosen in the boys' poll. He was nominated for making seven 3-point shots and scoring 24 points overall in Brophy's upset of The Republic's then-No. 1-ranked team, Perry, on Jan. 20.

Other boys' nominees were Bryce Anderson, Phoenix Christian basketball, who scored 72 points in a win over Mountainside on Jan. 19, and Brendan Weeks, Mesa wrestling, who won the 126-pound class to help host school Mesa High win the Anthony Robles Wrestling Invitational on Jan. 20.

Taylor Drewry of Chandler Basha cross-country was selected in the girls' poll. She won the elite girls' mile event in 5:11.84 at the West Mile Showdown held at ALA Foothills West on Jan. 20.

Other girls' nominees were Ashlee Kelsey, Mesa Eastmark soccer, who scored four goals in a Jan. 16 win over Goldwater and six goals in the Jan. 18 win over Combs; and Lia Sims, Phoenix Central basketball, who scored 30 points in a Jan. 17 loss to McClintock and 34 points in a Jan. 16 loss to Betty H. Fairfax.

Nominees are based on performances in AIA-sanctioned sports. Polls are usually posted on azcentral.com each Monday and voting closes at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Results are announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Arizona Republic on Friday. Nominees are chosen by Republic sports staff, with input from coaches and readers. Submit a weekly nominee at static.azcentral.com/sports/high-schools/nominations/).
