Volga opens play in Region 3B American Legion tourney with victory over Flandreau

Home runs by Mitchell and Jackson Noem, Kale Stevenson and Mick Tulson carried the Lake Norden Lakers to an 8-3 amateur baseball win over Redfield Dairy Queen on Monday.

The Lakers (14-3) are the No. 1 seed for the District 1B amateur baseball tournament that runs July 22-27 at Clark. First-round games Saturday include No. 2 Milbank vs. No. 7 Ramona at 2 p.m., No. 3 Volga vs. No. 6 Elkton at 4:30 p.m. and No. 4 Clark vs. No. 5 Castlewood Monarchs at 7 p.m. Lake Norden faces the Clark-Castlewood winner at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Mitchell Noem finished 4-for-4 and also hit doubles for the Lakers. Stevenson, who also doubled, joined Jackson Noem and Tulson with two hits apiece.

Isaac Rubendall earned the win, striking out six batters in five innings.

Easton Millar hit a double for Redfield.

Final Eastern Dakota League Standings: 1. Lake Norden Lakers, 13-1; 2. Castlewood Ravens, 12-2; 3. Milbank Firechiefs, 8-6; 4. Volga Cormorants, 8-6; 5. Clark Traders 8-6; 6. Castlewood Monarchs, 4-10; 7. Elkton Snappers, 3-11; 8. Ramona Express, 0-14.

The Ravens are a Class A team and will face Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar in a best-of-three playoff series that opens Sunday with two games starting at 2 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will be played on Wednesday, July 26. The winner advances to the opening weekend of the state Class A tournament.

Region 2B Legion Baseball

Volga (5-9) opened play in the tournament with a 6-2 win over Flandreau on Monday.

Connor Gross had four hits, including a double, for Volga. Boden Schiller added two doubles and a single and Kyler Bezdichek a double and a single. Christopher Moberg scattered seven hits over seven innings for the win.

Carson Clark had two hits for Flandreau.

In other games Monday, Dell Rapids downed Madison 12-2 and Baltic 8-0.

Tri-Valley Maroon 13, Hamlin 16U 3

Tri-Valley rolled to victory in the 16U game on Monday, Gavin Maag and Jacob Williams each had singles for Hamlin.
