Vivianne Miedema: Arsenal confirm striker to leave this summer

Arsenal have confirmed the Women’s Super League’s record goalscorer Vivianne Miedema will be leaving the club this summer.

The striker has been with the Gunners since 2017 after joining them from Bayern Munich and she has been as huge hit in north London.

Miedema has scored 125 goals and provided 50 assists in her 172 appearances for Arsenal, while she is also the WSL’s all-time top-scorer.

The 27-year-old, however, will be a free agent this summer after Arsenal confirmed today she will be leaving the club when her contract expires.

Miedema suffered a serious knee injury in December 2022 and it has restricted her to making just 13 appearances for Arsenal this season.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we thank Viv for her huge contribution towards the success of the team during her seven years with us,” said Arsenal’s sporting director Edu.

“Viv’s goals and overall performances as an Arsenal player have been of the highest quality, and she has created so many wonderful memories for us over the years. We wish Viv and her family the best of health and happiness for the future.”

Arsenal’s director of women’s football Clare Wheatley added: “Since joining us in 2017, Viv has taken on a special place in the hearts of our supporters, who I’m sure will have many fond memories of her time at Arsenal.”

Miedema will get the chance to say her goodbyes to Arsenal fans in the club’s final game of the season at home to Brighton on Saturday.
