Vikings select Texas A&M QB Kellen Mond in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft

The Vikings have an opening on the depth chart below quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Cousins is under contract through 2022. Minnesota is pretty locked into his deal, but that doesn’t mean the team should get complacent with the game’s most important position.

And complacent they did not get. With the No. 66 overall pick in the NFL draft, the Vikings nabbed Texas A&M QB Kellen Mond.

Mond has shown to be accurate under pressure. He has high upside, but he might be more of a project, making him the perfect backup quarterback for Minnesota. Overall, the team got good value in the third round of the draft.

Prior to the draft, Vikings GM Rick Spielman was asked about possibly taking a quarterback in the draft. He said that there is no position off limits. That turned out to be the case. Now, it’s time to see Mond develop over the next couple seasons.
