Vikettes swamp stew Brunswick

Dec. 4—VALDOSTA — In a Friday doubleheader, the Lowndes Vikings faced off against the Brunswick Pirates. The series of games for the Lowndes took place at home, where the Vikettes retained their undefeated status after a commanding 69-37 win. The Vikings played an aggressive and entertaining game; however, a close fourth period ended in a 60-53 loss.

Vikettes

The Lady Pirates' Reagan Hicks started the game aggressively with a drive into the paint for a layup. The Vikettes played with intense inside pressure throughout the game.

Lowndes' Kimora Wade, with impressive shooting, got an early lead for the Vikettes. Wade turned steals twice into layups, resulting in free throws on both occasions. Lady Pirates' Shania Jones attempted to come back with a layup and a three-pointer; however, the Vikettes' lead would soon take off.

Neither team would score for 3 minutes in the second period, with Lowndes' Leah Jones ending the period with a rebound after extensive ball movement. Halftime began with a score of 34-17 for the Vikettes.

Vikettes' Aryana Thomas started the third period with a deep three-pointer. Lowndes' lead only grew with a standout performance in the paint from Shamiaha Webb. A quick fourth period ended the game 69-37.

Vikes

The Vikings' Kam Jackson began the game with a three, followed by a standout performance for the rest of the contest. The Pirates could not keep up with the Vikings' offense in the first period. Three-pointers from Brunswick's Dasean Watson and Joshua Daniel kept the Pirates in the game. Two free throws from Kaden Brown secured the lead at the end of the first period.

The second period consisted of the two teams trading baskets for the lead, with Jackson putting down a powerful dunk to make the score 20-19. The period would end with a three-pointer from Jackson, scoring 30-27 for the Vikings.

Both teams were on the defensive, resulting in two and a half minutes of no points to start the third period. A rebound from the Vikings' Ruben Compton cut the building tension.

The star of the second half for the Pirates, Heze Kent, kept Lowndes on their toes with a crazy performance. The third period ended with the Vikings holding a slight advantage of 44-42.

The Vikings lost their lead with a layup from Brunswick's Nasir Poole tying the game up. Brunswick's offense took off in the final period, with a timeout called by head coach Reshon Benjamin to rally the athletes to finish the game strong. A three-pointer from Isaiah Camon would make it 55-53 with the Pirates still ahead.

The game ended 60-53 for the Pirates. The Lowndes' Vikings overall record stands at 2-4. The Vikings are home again on Dec. 5th to face the Madison County (Fla.) Cowboys at 5:30 p.m.
