Viera vs. Dwyer in FHSAA 6A state baseball semifinal

Viera High fell, 8-0, to second-seeded Dwyer in an FHSAA Class 6A semifinal game in Ft. Myers' Hammond Stadium on Thursday.

Dwyer (21-7-1) will play Buchholz on Saturday for the championship. The Hawks, the third seed in the state tournament, ended their season at 17-12. Buchholz defeated Bloomingdale, 12-0 in the first semifinal of the day.

Dwyer pitcher Nick Rovitti reached 101 strikeouts for the season with his complete game shutout. The Panthers pounded out 13 hits.

Jackson Miller, who homered for Dwyer in the first inning, added a one-out double in the second. He then stole third and came home when the throw to third went into the outfield. The 3-0 lead sent the Panthers well on their way to the program's first title game appearance.

The game was delayed by weather. Scheduled for 1 p.m., the first pitch came about five hours later.
