Viera runner leads All-Space Coast Boys Cross Country for 2023

FLORIDA TODAY Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year
Only one Brevard County high school runner ran a race under 16 minutes in the postseason in 2023, and it was Jack Girard of Viera.
He also had the county's best time in regional or state competition. Girard is the FLORIDA TODAY Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.
Girard was a tenth of a second off a 10-second win at the Cape Coast Conference meet on Oct. 19 at Wickham Park in Melbourne. He won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:59.8.

The Hawks junior finished his year with the best time by an area runner at the FHSAA state event at Apalachee Park in Tallahassee. Girard ran in the Class 4A race with a time of 16:19.9.
His Region 3-4A time of 16:31.01 was the best for a Brevard runner that weekend as well, and it placed him seventh in that meet. At the District 5-4A meet, his time of 16:25.0 was good enough for seventh.

Isaac Cerveny, Senior, Cocoa Beach
Cerveny won the Region 2-2A meet with a time of 16:33.0. His best postseason time was 16:20.0, fourth in District 4-2A. He finished 13th in Class 2A at the FHSAA state meet.
Jack Girard, Junior, Viera
Girard won the Cape Coast Conference with a county-best 15:59.8. He placed seventh in District 5-4A and in Region 3-4A. Ran Brevard's best state time, 16:19.9.
Michael Girard, Sophomore, Viera
Girard ran sixth with a time of 16:19.4 in the District 5-4A meet. He finished third at the conference meet. He placed ninth in Region 3-4A and ran a 16:25.9 at state.
Skyler Jensen, Junior, Holy Trinity
Jensen was the District 4-1A runner-up with a time of 16:23.1. He went on to place ninth at the Region 2-1A meet and 35th in Class 1A at the FHSAA meet.
Sawyer Kinsey, Junior, Astronaut
Kinsey peaked with a best postseason time of 16:31.5 for 17th in the FHSAA Class 2A meet. He placed seventh in District 4-2A and ninth in Region 2-2A.
Shane Kinsey, Junior, Astronaut
Kinsey posted a 16:20.0 for fourth at the Cape Coast Conference meet. He finished fourth in Region 2-2A, fifth in District 4-2A and 20th at the FHSAA 2A state meet.
Aaron Murphy, Senior, West Shore
Murphy ran a 16:26.4 to finish 10th at the Cape Coast Conference meet. He was ninth in District 4-2A and eighth in the Region 2-2A meet.
