DREW SILVA: In one of the more fascinating trades of the August 2nd deadline, the Cardinals acquired starter Jordan Montgomery from the Yankees in exchange for outfielder Harrison Bader and a player to be named later or cash considerations. Bader is still on the IL battling plantar fasciitis, but Montgomery made his debut in Saint Louis on Saturday, actually against his former team. He scattered two hits and one walk across five scoreless innings versus the Yanks before exiting with a pitch count of 83 on a hot and humid evening at Busch Stadium.
Montgomery should love his new digs. Busch is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Yankee Stadium in terms of pitcher friendliness. And he's now working in front of an elite defense, Gold Glover's dotted all over the diamond with the metrics to back it up. It should also be noted the Cardinals have the easiest remaining schedule of anyone. 38 of their final 54 games this year are against teams that are currently under the 500 mark. Montgomery's era and win total will only benefit down the stretch.
